Welcome to Her Cycling Journal 🚴‍♀️

Hi! I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m Sarah, a total beginner when it comes to cycling - and that’s exactly why I started Her Cycling Journal.

If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be happily chatting about bike gears, padded shorts, and the best routes for a Saturday morning spin, I would have laughed. But here we are! Over the last few months, I’ve fallen headfirst into the world of cycling, and I wanted a space where I could share that journey — the wobbles, the wins, the gear I love (and the stuff that definitely wasn’t worth it), and the routes that made me fall in love with being on two wheels.

Why I Started This Blog

When I first decided to get into cycling, I found the online world pretty overwhelming. There were so many opinions about bikes, helmets, jerseys, training plans - and most of them seemed to assume you already knew the lingo. I didn’t know my cadence from my clip-ins, and I just wanted someone to explain it all in plain English without making me feel silly.

So, this blog is my way of becoming that “friendly face” I wish I’d found when I started. I’ll be sharing:

  • My beginner journey — from my first shaky rides to building confidence on the road.

  • Gear reviews — honest, down-to-earth recommendations (no jargon, just what works).

  • UK cycling routes — easy, scenic rides perfect for beginners and weekend explorers.

  • Tips & tricks — everything I’m learning along the way, from bike maintenance to staying motivated.

Building a Community

One of the things I’m most excited about is creating a space where more women feel encouraged to get on a bike. Cycling can be intimidating - but it doesn’t have to be. I want Her Cycling Journal to feel like a safe, supportive corner of the internet where we can share our experiences, ask questions, and celebrate the small wins (because your first ride in the rain is definitely a win!).

Eventually, I’d love for this to become a go-to hub for women starting their own cycling journey — somewhere you come not just for advice, but for a little motivation to get out there and ride.

What’s Next

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be posting beginner-friendly guides, gear recommendations, and my favourite local routes. And of course, I'd love to hear from you. What do you struggle with as a cyclist? What would make getting out on your bike easier or more fun? Leave a comment or drop me a message - I’d love to chat.

So, grab a cup of tea (or your water bottle!), have a look around, and let’s go on this journey together.

Here’s to more women on bikes, fewer nerves at the start line, and lots of miles filled with fresh air and freedom. 💛

See you out there,

S x
